The "Return to Work Training for Lehigh Supervisors" and "COVID-19 Return to Work Training" courses were designed for the Members of the Lehigh Community using Articulate Storyline 360.
Both courses were created based on a combination of Backward Design and Design Thinking principles. With the end in mind (Backward Design), they were tailored to the target audiences having different needs. Analyzing the audiences' needs, defining the problem, creating a series of prototypes, getting feedback from the stakeholders helped to make sure that the iterations made throughout the work process ensured the learning outcomes determined in the beginning.
Both training courses incorporate the institution’s branding and contain the information approved by the stakeholder departments. All the modules conclude with skill check activities. The activities vary in their format from drag-and-drop or matching items to multiple-choice test questions. Scenario- and simulation-based activities were used to immerse the user in the environments where they will be using the knowledge gained in real life.
The visuals used in the training courses convey certain messages in order to reduce the amount of text, create memory "shelves", provide emotional context, and address different sensory systems. Such an approach should be employed to expedite the process of information retrieval in the future (Dirksen, Design for How People Learn).
Accessibility of the training courses was ensured by applying the C.R.A.P. design principles, providing audio voiceovers, and testing them using the NVIDIA screen reader to make sure it worked for the individuals who use such software on a regular basis.
